Lisbon, Portugal, Pedro Horta started playing violin in 3rd grade in NYC via the Suzuki method, eventually landing spots as first chair at his middle and high school orchestras in San Antonio, TX. At age 15, he got his first drum kit and started teaching himself, playing along to Zeppelin, The Police, and U2 records... After two years as a Physics major at Amherst College, MA, he switched to Music, focusing on classical & jazz composition. Pedro apprenticed under the great jazz drummer Billy Arnold (Springfield, MA) and studied jazz piano & music theory with Andy Jaffe (Berklee College of Music, Amherst College). Since graduating in '95, Pedro has worked primarily in San Francisco, Milwaukee, and Austin, TX, eventually becoming the #1 drum teacher (on Google & Yelp) from 2009 to 2025 at Drum Lessons Austin. Pedro has recently relocated to Bangor, ME, and is proud to call her home… His daughter, Risa, is currently a Photography major at FIT in New York.
